Wilmington Giant – Bespoke Fine Art Print
Eric Ravilious
£225.00
From a watercolour on paper (1939), Wilmington Giant is one of a series of iconic chalk figure paintings made by Eric Ravilious, who has come to be defined by his austerely beautiful watercolours of Sussex and the South Downs. Born in Acton but growing up in Eastbourne, he was appointed Official War Artist in 1940, documenting coastal defences at Newhaven and the Channel waters. In 1942, aged just 39, Ravilious took part in an air and sea rescue mission on board a Hudson plane and tragically disappeared with four others while searching for an aircraft lost the previous day.
Wilmington Giant is authorised by Eric Ravilious's Estate and produced by The Bookroom Press in Hove.
