Set within the heart of the South Downs National Park in Wilmington, the Long Man Inn is perfectly situated to offer elegant and peaceful accommodation to a wide range of visitors. For walkers we are only a stone’s throw away from the South Downs Way, while cyclists can stop off along the newly opened cycle path between Lewes and Polegate. For culture seekers we are a few minutes’ drive away from the world-famous Glyndebourne Opera and Charleston Farmhouse (former country retreat of the Bloomsbury Group and home to the annual Charleston Festival). We are equidistant from the characterful county town of Lewes and the elegant seaside resort of Eastbourne. And if you really want excitement it takes less than half an hour to drive into Brighton.

Originally called The Black Horse, the Long Man Inn was built in 1908 as a guest house and inn. Although small, we believe we are perfectly formed to offer comfortable and cosy hospitality and accommodation laced with a fair degree of Edwardian charm. Our four rooms each have their unique character and atmosphere, alongside modern high-quality ensuite bathrooms. Each has tea and coffee-making facilities and a hair dryer.

Well-behaved dogs and their considerate owners are welcome both in our pub and our overnight guest rooms. However, we do insist that your four-legged friends are never left on their own in rooms, bar or garden and that owners are liable for any damage caused.

For dogs staying overnight we provide a basket, bedding and two bowls, along with a little welcome pack of doggy treats. Treats are also available in the bar. We can accommodate up to two dogs per room but please note our rooms are not huge. If your dogs are large we recommend you book Room 4. We charge £20 a night (two dogs £30). We have an outside hose for cleaning muddy paws and dog towels for drying.
